Height Safety for the Workplace

 Personal Fall Protection Equipment

β€œIn 2019/20, 29 fatal injuries to workers were due to falls from a height, accounting for around a quarter of all worker deaths over the year.” HSE Workplace fatal injuries in Great Britain, 2020

15% of injuries to employees are related to falls from height, your work force can be exposed to fall risks while carrying out the simplest of tasks. Always review the task and ensure you and your employees have the correct personal fall protection equipment.

We aim to supply the correct solution for your working at height requirements using such brands as Miller Fall Protection, Kratos and Ikar GB. From general maintenance work to professional rigging, we have a full range of specialist cost effective solutions to match your requirements.

 Height Safety Harnesses

Choosing the correct harness can be difficult as there are so many variations of harnesses available on the market.

Single Point Full Body Safety Harness - attachment points at the rear of the Harness.

Two Point Full Body Safety Harness - attachments at both a rear and front

Full Body Safety Harness - varied attachment points and can include additional features such as Work Positioning Belts, Side D-Rings.

Fall Arrest Restraint and Work Positioning Lanyards

Choosing the correct Lanyard for the job is essential when working at height. We offer a wide range of webbing or rope-based lanyards in various sizes and lengths with your choice of connections to attach to your harness and reliable anchor point.

The important point to think about is are you working on fall arrest or fall restraint, if you are having difficulty understanding please see below our "Get the correct equipment for the task" section.

 Self-retracting lines with energy absorption

Similar in design to a seat belt, these devices will feed out if until a sharp pull (force of a user falling) is put on the device causing the internal components to lock and offer energy absorbing abilities. These devices are available in webbing, galvanised steel cable or stainless steel cable and come in a range of lengths.

Our new range of edge tested devices will give you complete pieces of mind that no matter where you fall you will be arrested.

Get the correct equipment for the task

Fall Restraint Protection

The safest way to carry out a task is to eliminate the risk of falling. Fall restraint equipment ensures that the user cannot physically get to the fall risk.

This is the safest means of access as chances of a user falling are low if the equipment is used correctly. The equipment normally used is a fixed of adjustable rope lanyard which is short enough to keep the user as safe distance from the fall risk, these are fixed to a reliable anchor point.

Fall Arrest Protection

When the risk of falling cannot be removed fall arrest protection will need to be used. These products use energy absorbers, which in the event of a fall tear out and extend reducing the load on the user and the structure.

The equipment can be a fixed length or self-retracting lines (inertia reels) to ensure the used has the shortest fall distance possible. These are fixed to a reliable anchor point, ideally fixed overhead.

Rescue From Height

One of the most overlooked parts of a method statement is rescue, in the event of a fall how do you get your employee to safety and prevent further injury?

If your employee has fallen on a fall arrest lanyard they will be hanging in the air, time is a major factor as in a short time they will start to face suspension trauma. A rescue plan should already be in place and ready to implement.

The main factor you must think of is will the fallen person be lifted or lowered to safety.

Recovery Blocks

These are fixed above the work area, sometimes fixed to a davit post. In the event of a fall the wire is extended and connected to the user's harness anchor point. The rescuer now can lift the fallen user to safety by winding the block and retracting the cable.

These are usually used for confined space or manholes.

Controlled Decent

These are fixed to a reliable anchor point and the rope extends to fix to the fallen users harness anchor point. The rope is released from the decent device and the user is lowered to safety at a controlled speed. The speed can be reduced by the user or the rescuer by holding the rope.

These are mostly used in general maintenance.
We will gladly provide advice when you are planning and conducting all projects for height access or the installation of personal safety equipment.
